Wade-Parise Merger

Following is a question and answer with Frank and Chris Wade regarding the merger that has taken place in their family business.

Why are the Wades leaving the funeral business?

We’re not. This merger with the Parise family allows us to combine two traditions that have had a cooperative relationship since the 1950’s to create the next generation of funeral service in Carbondale. Both Frank and Chris will maintain their licenses, both licenses will hang in the same place they always have, and Chris will be the supervisor of the new business.

Why the Parises?

In the 1950’s Ted Wade and Carmine Parise frequently assisted each other in business. In 2010, merging the two businesses allows Frank and Chip and the younger generation, Jason and Jeff Parise and Chris Wade, to ensure that - whether you were a ‘Wade family’ or a ‘Parise family’ – the family traditions that were there to serve you in your time of need will be there in the future.

There’s a personal reason as well. When the fire happened next to our funeral home in 1987, when we thought we might lose everything, only one other funeral director came forward. That afternoon, when we had no idea if we were going to be able to stay open, Chip Parise came down, extended his hand and said “Frank, anything you need, I’ll help you with.” So when the time came, the Parise family was the obvious choice.

What happens to my pre-arrangements with the Wades?

Nothing. We still have all of your files and records of any pre-arrangements you’ve made with us. Our phone number will be the same. When you need us, call us at 282-2250. The Wade Funeral Home will still be here to serve you.

Is the funeral home moving? Will there be changes?

No, the funeral home isn’t moving. And yes, there will be changes and we think they’ll be for the better. As we move into a new digital age, we’ll have more options for you to choose from, from DVD’s and videos to online condolences to expanded merchandise options. Our downtown location might be undergoing a facelift, but it will remain open and be the same Wade Funeral Home that has served up valley families for the last 60 plus years.

So why isn’t Chris taking over?

(Chris): A few reasons. One, my dad isn’t looking to retire, just to scale back his activities. This arrangement allows him to be out in front with his families as much as he wants to, while hopefully getting the chance to be a grandfather. For me, like my dad, teaching is a calling and I feel in my heart it’s what I’m supposed to be doing right now. Working with the Parise family gives me the latitude to teach and still be involved in the family business.

What are the advantages for my family of this merger?

It allows both funeral homes to offer a wider range of services to you while ensuring that both firms retain the personal family touch that has been a hallmark of both firms. As time moves on, businesses have to adapt. Our hope is that this ensures the survival of the traditional funeral service in Carbondale for the next generation, while using technology to create new traditions for new generations to come.
