Richard M. Cunningham, 66, of Carbondale, PA, died Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Select Specialty Hospital, Danville, PA. His wife is the former Linda L. Hachan. They were married July 10, 1999. God, you have taken away from me the most loving and wonderful man that I was able to have 19 wonderful years with. Thank you so much for our wonderful life together.
Born May 16, 1951 in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of the late John and Agatha Purdy Cunningham.
He was educated in Maryland schools and graduated from Penn State and Georgetown Universities. In his early years, Richard was in the ROTC and worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.
Later, he worked in the insurance field and also for the unemployment department. He loved watching the Washington Redskins and was one of their greatest fans. He was an avid re-enactor, great reader, runner and enjoyed walking all over Carbondale. He loved his children and grandchildren and was so proud of all their accomplishments.
He is survived by two daughters: Christen Jeter and husband Tony of Maryland and Jan Reilly and husband Sean of Tokyo, Japan; four grandchildren: Channing and Asiah Jeter and Emily and Katie Reilly; one aunt: Katie and Greg Jin of Connecticut; nieces and nephews: Alyssa Hachan-Berry and husband Len, Mariah and fiance Rich Runco, Dana, Richard, II. and Christopher Hachan; great niece and nephew: Maggy and Blake Berry and several cousins.
He was also preceded in death by one brother: John "Jack" Cunningham.
The funeral was held Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Paul Fontanella, assistant pastor. Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Richard Hachan, II., Christopher Hachan, Len Berry and Rich Runco.
Family and friends called Friday, January 19, 2018 from 4-7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations were made in Richard's name to Catholic Social Services, 516 Fig Street, Scranton, PA 18505.
