Raymond F. Barrett, 79, of Port Jervis, NY, died Saturday, March 24, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, the former Joan Marie Dougher, who died on December 23, 1993.
Born on January 14, 1939 in Scranton, PA, son of the late Michael Francis and Leila Kilmer Barrett.
He graduated from Ben Franklin High School, Carbondale, PA, and Penn State University and proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1963, with his focus in the Missile Program.
During his career, he worked for a number of companies, including Digital, Pfizer, Siemens Medical, but was most proud of his accomplishments with Western Union and the AUTODIN project. His work, always in the electrical engineering capacity, was his life's passion, but his wife and family were his greatest love and joy. He was a fan of anything railroad, photography, woodworking, computers and electronics, and building hi-fi systems. He was an avid reader, lover of space technology, music, adopting animals and spoiling his grandchildren.
Our dad was a kind, generous and encouraging soul, who, despite years of physical and health challenges, remained cheerful and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a man who accepted all people, beliefs, and walks of life; imprinting upon his children and grandchildren to pursue open mindedness with avoidance of prejudices.
He is survived by three daughters: Erin Seminatore and husband Joseph of Westfield, NY, Susan Barrett of Springtown, TX and Virginia Hendershot and husband David of Port Jervis, NY; three granddaughters: Athena Paterson, Joanna and Rhiannon Seminatore; an aunt: Ethel Labowsky of Crystal Lake, PA; also many beloved cousins.
The funeral was held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA. Interment with military honors, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA.
