Obituary of Joan Alampi

Joan M. Alampi, 66, of Carbondale, PA, died Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Taylor, PA, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of the late Carl A. Alampi, Sr., who died April 4, 2003.

Born September 30, 1950 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Jean Lucas VanNort.

Joan was a 1968 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.

She began her career as a seamstress in local dress factories upon graduating from high school. After a number of years, she went to work for The Guild in Carbondale until their closing. Later on, she worked as a healthcare aide for Allied Services, Scranton for 12 years, and then, most recently, as a clerk for Lynn's Hallmark, Carbondale.

Joan was a caring person who loved to help people. She was always the life of a party, was artistic, and always had a smile for everyone she met. She loved people, loved to laugh, and was an extremely compassionate person. She will be missed by her family and friends, especially her soulmate, her beloved dog, Suki, her cat Lucky Man, and, her daughter Crystal, her best friend who loved her beyond words.

She is survived by one daughter: Crystal Alampi and companion Michael Ayers of Greenfield Township, PA and his son Zachary Ayers, whom she thought of as a grandson; several nieces and nephews: Cindy Ames, Charlene Graziano, Jean Castle, Dr. Joseph Van Nort, Dr. James Van Nort, and Bobby Van Nort; one brother: John Van Nort and wife Eileen and daughter, Sheila of Jermyn, PA.

She was preceded in death by two brothers; Joseph Van Nort, Sr. and infant James Van Nort; one sister: Jean Marie Piccioli and her husband Steven.

The funeral was held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. James Price, C.P., pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.

Pallbearers: Michael Ayres, Zachary Ayres, William Ames, Joseph Graziano, Robert Van Nort, Adam Jones and Austin Chludzinski.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
