Salvatore Giresi, 78, of Throop, PA, and formerly of Pleasant Mount and Forest City, PA, passed away in his sleep at home on Friday, January 4, 2019. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Dorothy Mezger Giresi, who died in 2006.
Born July 14, 1940 in Palermo, Italy, he was the son of the late Gondolfo and Antonina Potestio Giresi.
He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Sal was an avid member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 30 years where he helped so many people in their struggles with sobriety. He was also an Army veteran.
He is survived by his two sons: Michael Giresi of Jessup, PA and Peter Giresi of Carbondale, PA; one daughter: Cristina Knehr and husband, Andrew Conklin of Throop, PA; grandchildren: Nicole Palmer and husband, Steven of Minooka, PA; Anthony Giresi of Old Forge, PA; Thomas Kubus and fiance, Brianne Liuzzo of Scott Township, PA; Alicia Giresi of Taylor, PA and James Knehr of Carbondale, PA; great grandchildren: Caleb, Connor and Kaiden; two brothers: Tony Giresi and wife, Patricia of Shirley, NY and Frank Giresi of Sebring, FL.
He was also preceded in death by a brother: Vinny Giresi.
The funeral was held Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place, Carbondale, PA.
Friends called Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
