Louis A. Montonaro, 81, of Carbondale, PA, and a resident of the Carbondale Nursing Center for the past three years, died Tuesday morning, March 23, 2021 at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton, PA, after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Sally Curtis on August 26, 1996.
Born May 14, 1939 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary Scalise Montonaro.
Louie was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and had served for over 20 years with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. He had been employed by Triangle Pacific, Carbondale, and retired from the Suckle Corporation, Scranton. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale, and enjoyed spending time as a back yard mechanic.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Carbondale Nursing Center for their kind and compassionate care.
He is survived by two children: Michele Burke and husband, Jerry of Carbondale, PA and Michael Montonaro and wife, Katrina of Punta Gorda, FL; five grandchildren: Melanie Burke, Jared Burke, Damian Katchmore, Anthony Montonaro and Kira Montonaro; a great grandson: Louis Montonaro; a sister: Delores Gullone of Carbondale, PA; several nieces and nephews; and his companion: Antoinette Ruddy of Carbondale.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA, celbrated by Rev. Jeffrey Walsh, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Jared Burke, Anthony Montonaro, Robert Burko, James Burke, Gene Colosimo and Leo Kerylovicz.
Friends called Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. at the church.
