Gerald "Jerry" Mazzucca, formerly of Carbondale, PA; passed away on May 4, 2021, at the age of 77, in Sacramento California.
Jerry was born in Throop, PA, to the late Anthony and Evelyn Brunamonti Mazzucca. He was born into an Italian family of pharmacists, was raised above the family's business, Mazzucca's Pharmacy, which was located on Fallbrook Street in Carbondale. He would often take over as a young man running the family business. Jerry was a 1960 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, where his father and brother also attended. In the 1960's the family moved to the Napa Valley of California where Jerry continued his education at Lincoln University School of Law, University of San Francisco and the Pacific School of Pharmacy.
He later married his high school sweetheart, the former Frances Chellino and they operated Mazzucca's Pharmacy in San Jose, California. Frances passed away on September 6, 1993.
Jerry was a dedicated pharmacist and mentor. Over his fifty-year career, Jerry's passion for pharmacy led him to get politically active in numerous ways, serving as President at the California, Sacramento Valley, Napa-Solano and Santa Clara Pharmacist Associations. He was honored as Pennsylvania Pharmacist of the Year, Eli Lilly Achievement Award and the Alumni Achievement Award from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy where Jerry and his brother, AJ have a family scholarship fund.
Jerry loved golf, spending time with his pharmacy family and visiting his eight Aunts. Jerry could light up a room with his laughter and was generous beyond words, a bigger than life personality. He will be sorely missed by his family and pharmacy colleagues.
Jerry is survived by his brother: Anthony Mazzucca, of Sacramento, CA; his friend of twenty years: Vangie; nieces: Emily Gray, Kara Houston and Jenny Mazzucca; and step-children: Chris Woodburn, Jennifer Riser Klein and Frank Riser.
