Obituary of Jennie Collins

Jennie K. Collins, 102, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA, moved on to life after death on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton, PA. She was the wife of the late Rexford C. Collins, who died February 4, 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge in France.

Born October 7, 1915 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Francesco and Maria Giuseppa Cerra.

Jennie was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and attended Lackawanna College and Marywood University. She worked as a sewing machine operator for local dress factories in Carbondale.

She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale and taught Sunday Bible School, was the bell ringer and quilted for numerous church fund raisers. She was also a member of the Daughters of America and was a Girl Scout leader when her daughters were younger.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, knitting, playing the organ, singing and plastic canvas crafts. She had the most beautiful blue eyes and was a caregiver to her entire family since she was a young girl.

She is survived by one daughter: Jennie Kay Mroczka and husband Joseph of Scott Township, PA; seven grandchildren: Carla Bologansky, Carol Ann Prybicien, Carl Prybicien, Jr., Joseph, Paul and Brian Mroczka and Marlene Daniels; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Carrie Prybicien; great granddaughter: Tomasina Joy Prybicien; three brothers: Frank, Peter, Jr. and Peter Santo Cerra; two sisters: Mary Catanzaro and Rose Cerra.

The funeral was held Monday, May 21, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with Rev. Donald Perry, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale, officiating. Interment, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Carbondale.

Pallbearers: Brian Mroczka, Vincent Mroczka, Russell Manuel, Zachary Boniello, Thomas Hyatt and Archie Seth.

Friends called Sunday, May 20, 2018 from 4-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were sent in Jennie's name to the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale, 20 North Church Street, Carbondale, PA 18407.
