Obituary of Joseph Liuzzo

Joseph T. Liuzzo, 89, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA, died Thursday, May 17, 2018 surrounded by his family. His wife of 63 years is the former Theresa Fendrock. They were married on February 19, 1955.

Born September 12, 1928 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Sadie Mauro Liuzzo. 

Joseph was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and worked at Husko Shoe Factory, Honesdale, where he met his wife, Theresa.  He was a molding supervisor for Gentex Corporation, Simpson, for 54 years prior to his retirement at the age of 80.

He was a faithful member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale, and enjoyed traveling with his family, summer cookouts and his long rides to pick up his grandson, Ian from Iona College.

His grandchildren Jessica and Ian were his heart and soul. He looked forward to their daily calls and supported them in every way throughout their lives. Joe was the patriarch of the family and was proud that his nieces and nephews from all over the country kept in touch with him by weekly visits and phone calls.  

The family would like to thank Home Health Care Professionals most especially Ann Howell, Paul Wetzel and Crystal Fortuner; Dr. Gershey and staff at Regional Hospital of Scranton; Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine and Dr. Lear VonKoch for their compassion and care of Joe over the past several years.

He is survived by two children: Tommy Liuzzo and Sally Liuzzo Martin, both of Carbondale, PA; one granddaughter: Jessica Wilcox and husband Nate of Cincinnati, OH; one grandson: Ian Martin of Carbondale, PA; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by seven sisters: Doris Rabbige, Carmella Zaccone, Helen Farrell, Angela Knott, Victoria Aloisio, Josephine Florini and Mary Liuzzo; three brothers: Anthony, Sam and James Liuzzo.

The funeral was held Monday, May 21, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. James Price, CP., pastor, and Deacon Edward Casey. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.

Pallbearers: Billy Bott, Nate Wilcox, Paul Moran, Robert Swika, Jr., Jeff Liuzzo, Thomas Zaccone, J.J. Zaccone and David Cerra.
