Obituary of John Killian

John M. "Duke" Killian, 87, of Blakely, PA, died Monday, June 4, 2018 at Allied Services Hospice, Scranton, PA, after a lengthy illness..   

Born in Dickson City, PA, he was the son of the late Anthony and Stella Scigielska Killian.

Duke was a graduate of Dickson City High School and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.  He retired from Anemostat Dynamics, Scranton, where he had been a supervisor for many years. He was also a member of SMART, Local 44.

Duke was a sports enthusiast who especially enjoyed watching college football and in his younger years he was a standout baseball player and boxer. On the outside Duke was a dapper gentleman but he was also a very private person. He was extremely proud of his family and his generosity towards them knew no bounds. His family will fondly remember him as a loving father and grandfather.

The family extends thanks to the staff at Lackawanna Health and Rehab for Duke's care over the last eight years. They are also grateful for the compassionate care given to him by Allied Services Hospice during his final days.     

He is survived by four children: John Killian, Jr., and wife Daria of Gouldsboro, PA, Donna Zmuda of Archbald, PA, Michael Killian of Arnold, MD and Marianne Andrews of Archbald, PA; one sister: Eleanor Moreiko of Olyphant, PA; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by seven siblings: Mary Retchko, Stephen, Stanley, Frank, Charles, Joseph and Chester Killian.

As per Duke's request, his services were held privately at the convenience of the family.
