Obituary of Gordon Emmett

Gordon J. Emmett, 89, of Union Dale, PA, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, PA, with his wife by his side. His wife of 23 years is the former Ann M. Zaleski. They were married April 22, 1995.

Born March 7, 1929 in Oneonta, NY, he was the son of the late John and Lizette Highhouse Emmett.

Gordon was a 1946 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and was a proud retired U.S. Navy veteran of 20 years. He was an instructor for the ROTC at Cornell University, owned and operated the Lake Como Inn and worked for Roney's Plumbing, Lakewood.

He was a member of the Walter Paciga VFW Post 4712, Simpson, American Legion Post 209, Lakewood, and the Moxie Club, Carbondale. He enjoyed hunting on the Rutledge Farm, Lakewood, owned by his friend Roger and fishing with his friend Rusty.

He belonged to the Christ Episcopal Church, Forest City, and enjoyed reading, traveling and gardening his meticulous flower and vegetable gardens.

He is survived by six children: Sally Dwyer of Rhode Island, Vicky Fox and husband Joseph of Florida, Elizabeth Emmett of Rhode Island, Andrea Saam and husband Jason of Lenoxville, PA, Matthew Ferrel and wife Joann of Union Dale, PA and Hilary Bretzik and husband Stephen of Nesquehoning, PA; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; half brother: Jack Emmett and wife Jean of New York and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister Alice Norris.

A private funeral service along with military honors was held at the convenience of the family from the Christ Episcopal Church, Forest City, PA. Interment, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Clifford, PA.
