Obituary of Josephine Bencivenga

Josephine Bencivenga, 85, of Equinunk, PA, died Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Wilkes-Barre, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Cono Bencivenga on November 23, 2006.

Born June 6, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Mary Novak Luchen. She married her one true love, Cono, on June 25, 1955. Together they raised four children in Bayshore, Long Island before retiring in Equinunk, PA.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church of Equinunk (Rileyville).  Josephine enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life from ceramics to dancing with her husband to hosting holiday parties. She spent many evenings watching wrestling or old movies while eating ice cream, of course. She also loved cooking and you could count on her serving a tasty lasagna or baked ziti. She was a generous person whose home was always open to everyone. But what she loved more than anything was her family. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she will be deeply missed.

She is survived by three children: Elaine Duffy and companion Burt Butler of Walton, NY, Cono Bencivenga, Jr., and wife Julie of Beth Page, NY and Emanuele Bencivenga of Thompson, PA; seven grandchildren: Donovan Allen, Kristie Schubert, Suzanne Schubert, Nicholas Dewald, Liza Dewald, Joseph Bencivenga and Michael Bencivenga; two great grandsons: Donovan Allen, Jr. and Damian Allen; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son: John Bencivenga; three grandsons: Michael Dewald, Anthony Bencivenga and Ryan Bencivenga; and five brothers and sisters.

Arrangements by Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA.
