Obituary of Anthony J. Rotell, Jr.

Anthony J. "Muzzy" Rotell, Jr., 86, of Carbondale Twp., PA, died Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at home surrounded by his daughter and her family. He was the husband of the former Juline Rose, who died on October 27, 2018. They shared 62 ½ years of marriage.

Born November 24, 1933 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Anthony J., Sr. and Adelaide McDonough Rotell.

Tony was a 1951 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and Marywood College where he majored in Mathematics. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired after 30 years of employment with the Pennsylvania Gas and Water Company as a service technician.

His life revolved around his grandchildren. Tony and his wife were always happy to take part in their everyday lives and being there for all their firsts. He was their biggest fan at sporting events, which he never missed and Sunday night and Monday night football as well as, Saturday morning breakfasts at Pinky's will never be the same without him. Tony enjoyed daily crossword puzzles and was an avid reader.

He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, and was devoted in daily prayer to Padre Pio and followed his beliefs of charity by helping those in need. Tony and Juline where faithful in attending St. Ann's Novena, especially with their grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart, especially Ann Pepson and Dr. Rao and staff for their compassionate care. On his final day, Tony thanked his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren for everything they had done for him and how much he would miss them.

He is survived by a daughter: Angela Tierney and husband, Thomas; three grandsons: Nicholas, Logan and Christopher Tierney; two sisters-in-law: Toni Emmett and Georgeann Rotell; a godson: George Hazlet; several nieces and nephews, and his dog: Lola.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Joseph and Patrick Rotell; a sister: Lucille Hazlet; two grandchildren: Matthew Rotell and Juilianna Tierney.

The funeral was held Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. from Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Kevin Miller, assistant pastor. Entombment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.

Pallbearers: Nicholas Tierney, Logan Tierney, James Beh, David Biondo, Eric Hosie and Nicholas Tokarczyk. 

Viewing hours were held Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from 6-8 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, Angela would prefer memorial contributions for a memorial bench in her parent's memory.
