Obituary of Carolyn M. Finneran

Carolyn Marie Finneran 78, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away peacefully September 13, 2020 in Iowa City surrounded by her loving family following a long illness.

Carolyn was born on January 23, 1942 in Carbondale, PA, the third child of Vincent and Evelyn (Petruzella) Pettinato.  As a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, she sang in the youth choir as a child. She graduated from St. Rose High School before attending Marywood University. Carolyn married John Finneran on August 25, 1962 at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Lake Ariel, and enjoyed 58 memorable and loving years together.  The couple moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where John attended Medical School. In 1970 Carolyn and John moved to Bloomfield, Iowa, where Carolyn would raise their five children.  She also worked as an office manager in her husbands’ practice, J. Finneran M.D., PC of Bloomfield, Iowa.  In 2006, Carolyn and John built a home in Punta Gorda, Florida, where they enjoyed warm winters.  She was also a member of St. Mary Magdalene Church in Pine Island, Florida.  It wasn’t until health issues came up that she decided to move back to Iowa to be closer to family.

Loved by everyone from the beginning, Carolyn kept busy with scouts, dance and several other sporting events while keeping her boys fed.  She enjoyed traveling at home and aboard and sailing with her husband John.  When she found free time, she volunteered at Davis County Hospital, working with The Main Street and Arts Council and was also a member of TTT Social Group, National Mah Jongg League, Inc., and Rathbun Yachts Club, where she was the first female commodore.

Carolyn’s love for her family was greater than anything else.  Her husband, children and grandchildren brought her so much joy and always brought out the best in her.

She is survived by her husband, John Finneran of Bloomfield, IA; her children, Michael Finneran (Denise Speer) of Bloomfield, IA, Kevin (Natasha) Finneran of Leander, TX, Martin Finneran of Dallas, TX, Kathleen (Richard) Cooper of St. Louis, MO, and Kristin (Steven) Fletcher of North Liberty, IA; grandchildren, Kaden Finneran, Natalia Finneran, Austin Owen, Maya Fletcher, Sophia Fletcher, and Ashley (Corey) Ward; great-grandchildren, Aden and Addyson; two sisters, Evelyn Brennan of Ankeny, IA and Kathleen Pettinato of Newton Lake, PA; two brothers, Vincent (Carol Ann) Pettinato of Binghamton, NY and James (Carol) Pettinato of Clifford, PA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
