Mary Warholic

Obituary of Mary R. Warholic

Mary R. Warholic, 89, of Carbondale, PA, died Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, PA, after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Robert R. Warholic on April 21, 2017.

Born September 6, 1931 in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Dominick and Mary Germano Tolerico.

Mary was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, was a devout catholic and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. She had been employed as a seamstress in the local garment industry and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Her roots of being raised in a large Italian family made her a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and niece. Her homestead was the center of life for four generations of her family. Her and Bob rarely missed anything in their grandchildren's lives having frequently made trips to Johnson City for recitals, games, graduations and special occasions. She was an avid traveler who took trips near and far, but the most special ones were when the entire family would attend.

Mary was a terrific cook and baker, skills she inherited from her mother and aunt. She could mend anything on her sewing machine in a moment's notice and was bestowed the title of "master cleaner" by her family, as she probably had the cleanest home ever. Her children will fondly remember their parents loving and devoted relationship to one another with memories of them holding hands while doing one of their favorite activities, roller skating.

The family extends a special thank you to the entire staff of the Gino Merli Veterans Center for the care and support they provided Mary during her illness.

She is survived by two children: Robert J. Warholic and wife, Andrea of Johnson City, NY and Mary Evertz and husband, Earl of Summerville, SC; four grandchildren: Robert Warholic and wife, Marissa, Adam Warholic and wife, Jessica, Travis Warholic and wife, Jennifer and Lauren Scarinzi and husband, Nate; nine great grandchildren: Anthony, Alana, Jenna, Christopher, T.J., London, John, Julie and Isaac; a brother: Dominick Tolerico, Jr. and wife, Mimi of Dover, NJ; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister: Pauline Cozzolino and husband, John.
