Obituary of Marlene R. Dean

Marlene R. Dean, 68, South Gibson, PA, died Saturday afternoon, January 30, 2021 at home surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer.

Born February 4, 1952 in South Gibson, PA, she was the daughter of the late Walter Holtsmaster and the late Doris Dymond Holtsmaster Papke Schenck.

Marlene was a graduate of Mountain View High School and had been employed by the Bendix Corporation in South Montrose, PA, Northrop Grumman Corporation in Archbald, PA, and later retired from Lockheed Martin, in Archbald, PA. She had attended the South Gibson United Methodist Church.

Marlene's world revolved around her family. She was the primary caregiver to her mother for many years until her recent illness. She was a proud grandmother and was frequently seen cheering at all of their school and sporting events. Marlene will be fondly remembered for her kind and generous spirit and always finding the good in everyone she met. Her favorite pastime was visiting Mohegan Sun Casino to play the penny slots and enjoying some dinner. Her family will always remember the nick names she called them by.

She is survived by her husband: Larry "Lawrence" Dean, whom she married on June 3, 1972. two children: Jeffrey "Jeffer" Dean of Waymart, PA and Stephanie "Lynner" Evans and husband, Nathan "Natie Pooh" of South Gibson, PA; five grandchildren: Jacelyn "Jace", Kaylee "Kake", and Leah "Leah Padia" Evans and Madison "Maddie, Maddie, Maddie" and Evan "Evie Pooh" Dean; two sisters: Patricia Benson and husband, Fred of Kingsley, PA and Ingrid Bawani of Buffalo, NY; three brothers: Frank Holtsmaster and wife, Kaye of Union Dale, PA, Gary Holtsmaster and wife, Carolyn of South Carolina and James Dymond and wife, Mary Jo of Lindenville, NY; a sister-in-law: Linda Holtsmaster of South Gibson, PA; a brother-in-law: Enrico Violetti of Long Island, NY; and many nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved dearly.

She was also preceded in death by a brother: Walter Holtsmaster, and a sister: Marsha Violetti.

The funeral was Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA, with Rev. Cathy Wilcox, officiating. Spring interment, South Gibson Cemetery, South Gibson, PA. The funeral service was livestreamed on the funeral home's website.
