Obituary of William "Billy" Lepre

William "Billy" Lepre, Jr., 79, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, died Friday, April 23, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. His wife of 55 years is the former Bernadette Scalzo. They were married September 18, 1965.

Born January 13, 1942 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late William Lepre, Sr. and Pasqualina Cianflone Guzzi Lepre.

Billy was a 1959 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and was in the Pennsylvania National Guard, 109th Infantry Regiment for 10 years.

He was employed by Torch Lumber Mills, Triangle Pacific, Falbo Dairy Products and was a foreman at Pizza Crust Company of PA. He retired as a transportation driver for NEIU #19.

He enjoyed his monthly meetings with local classmates in area restaurants, was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. He enjoyed attending many games over the years.

A member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale, he was known for organizing the Sim-Car Softball League that later became the Carbondale Area Softball League in which he was involved for 30 years. He managed Jo-Kay, Moran's, Squeekie's and Donato's Taverns along with the AOH before sponsoring his own team Lepre's, which won the league championship title in 1986. He was also involved in numerous Big Ball Tournaments benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

He enjoyed traveling to many U.S. cities and many many annual trips to Atlantic City with his wife. He was very involved with his daughter's twirling group, Lynnette's Twirlerettes and enjoyed all of her pageants, competitions, parades and recitals. Later in life he enjoyed being PaPa for his granddaughter, Vanessa. He also enjoyed attending his son's film festivals in which he directed and produced.

The family would like to thank Dr. Moro and staff and the nurses at VNA Hospice and Home Health for their care to Billy and his family during this difficult time.

He is survived by his daughter: Lynnette Lepre Van Deusen and husband, Jesse of Carbondale, PA; son: Loren Lepre of Deptford, NJ; granddaughter: Vanessa Van Deusen of Carbondale, PA; sisters: Mary Guzzi Hudson of Edison, NJ, Yolanda Guzzi Zimmerer and husband, Thomas of Bloomfield, NJ and Patricia Lepre Suits and husband, Roger of Edison, NJ; brothers: James Lepre of Mayfield, PA, Robert Lepre and wife, Linda of Montdale, PA, Gerald Lepre and companion, Mary Ann of Scranton, PA, Francis Lepre and companion, Rhonda of Empire, CA, John Lepre and wife, Julie of Kingsley, PA, Michael Lepre and companion, Susie of Hop Bottom, PA, and Jeffrey Lepre of Scranton, PA; sister-in-law: Phyllis Baldino Scalzo of Scranton, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by brothers: Samuel, Peter and Angelo Guzzi; sister: Rose Guzzi Minutello; brothers-in-law: Vincent Minutello and Frank Scalzo; sisters-in-law: Mary Mahady Guzzi, Margaret Gabriel Guzzi, and Josephine Wallinger Guzzi.

The funeral was held Tuesday, April, 27, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Jeffrey J. Walsh, pastor. Interment, parish cemetery, Carbondale, PA.

Pallbearers: Robert Lepre, Jr., Paul Leo, Peter Pettinato, V.M.D., Michael Apostolico, Jeffrey Van Deusen and David Suits.
