Obituary of Alan L. Peters

Alan L. Peters, 67, of Carbondale, PA, died Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Allied Services Hospice, Scranton, PA, after a battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, the former Ann Marie Vadella on November 22, 2020.

Born May 11, 1953 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Floyd and Helen Welch Peters.

Al was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and Penn State University. He had served with the 109th Infantry Division of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard for 29 years. During his time of service, he served active-duty periods in Germany and Bosnia. In 2003 he retired from Tobyhanna Army Depot where he had been employed as an electronics technician.

Al was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale, and was an avid hunter, fisherman and hiker. He also enjoyed traveling with his brother to visit the National Parks throughout the country. He was excited to spend time with family, especially his great-grandchildren as he recently traded in his fishing boat for a pontoon boat. He was also looking forward to seeing them enjoy the new side by side. Al especially enjoyed attending Giovanni and Remington's baseball games.

He is survived by three children: Lonnie (Judy) Hunter, Kim Hunter and Jamie (Tara) Hunter all of Carbondale, PA; three sisters: Marcia Stanton of Hawley, PA, Joan Linderman of Woodland Hills, CA and Sandy Peters of Stone Haven View, GA; one brother: Ron Peters of La Quinta, CA; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Richard "Butchie", Gerald "Jake" and Floyd "Sonny" Peters; five sisters: Susan Chadwick, Jean Steele, Nancy Moody, Katherine Bradbury, and infant Nicia May Peters.

The funeral was held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with Rev. Donald Perry, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale, officiating. Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
