Obituary of Violet J. Catella

Violet Jean Catella, 90, of Gouldsboro, PA, died Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Allied Hospice, Scranton, PA.

Born and raised in Staten Island, NY, Mrs. Catella retired to the Poconos with her late husband, James Catella, in 1995 after a successful career as the Chief Safety Officer at South Beach Psychiatric Center. Violet was predeceased by her husband shortly after their 58th wedding anniversary. Violet, sadly, is also predeceased by four of her seven children; a daughter, Yvonne Catella, and three sons, James (Chipper), Paul and Perry Catella. Violet is survived by her daughter, Gloria Kolbe (wife of Doug Kolbe) and two sons, Mark and Peter Catella.

Violet loved her role as a pen pal with elementary school children. The program was run by the Intergenerational Program of RSVP of Lackawanna County. Violet enjoyed playing bingo and was an active and beloved member of several local associations: The Healthy Eaters of Gouldsboro; The Red Hat Mammas; and The Pocono Springers. For years, Violet served as a volunteer at the Gouldsboro Firehouse.

Always humble and forever giving, Violet asked that there not be a viewing or funeral, but instead that her body be donated for research and teaching purposes to Science Care. Her favorite charities were St. Jude's Children's Hospital and the Shriner's Hospital for Children.
