Obituary of John Shalkey

John Shalkey, Jr., 88, of Greenfield Township, PA, passed away Friday, June 25, 2021 at the Carbondale Nursing Home, Carbondale, PA.

Born in Jermyn, PA, he was the son of the late John and Mary Shalkey.

John graduated from Scott High School and attended the University of Scranton. John went to work for the FBI in Washington DC, and was drafted into the service during the Korean War. He worked as a battery clerk at Andrews Air Force Base.

John returned home and worked for the PA Department of Transportation before starting and operating his own business G&S Sales in Greenfield Township.

John loved being on Newton Lake and was proud of the various boats he had including the Port Zombie. John took pride in all of his antique cars, winning many awards at car shows as a member of the Cadillac Lasalle Club. John had a green thumb and was happy when he could be outside landscaping and tending to his property or playing with his pals Nico and Yogi.

John was predeceased by a brother, Myron Shalkey and a sister, Pearl Martin.

John is survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as his close family friends, Marilyn and Walt Turner, Trent, Bobbi Jo, Alexis and Riley Turner and Mike Valentine and family.

A heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Carbondale Nursing Home for the exceptional care they provided.

Services were private from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Clifford, PA.
