Obituary of Muriel Torch Kowtko

Muriel Torch Kowtko, 91, of Carbondale, PA, died Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Hospice of The Sacred Heart, Dunmore. She was preceded in death by her first husband Andrew R. Torch and second husband William C. Kowtko.

Born and raised in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Walter J. and Isabel Measler Robinson.

Muriel was employed as a nurses' aide for many years at the Carbondale Nursing Home. She also spent numerous years providing companionship and care for elderly patients in their homes and cooked for 8 years at St. Rose Church Rectory. She was a strong woman devoted to her faith. She attended Mass daily at St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, for many years. Meeting up with friends at McDonnell's Restaurant after Mass for coffee and conversation was also part of her daily routine. Muriel’s greatest joy were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who all were the greatest loves of her life. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Mid-Valley Manor, where Muriel resided, Geisinger CMC and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the care that they provided.  

She is survived by eight children: Muriel Wells and husband, James of Forest City, Robert Torch and wife, Anne of Vandling and Virginia Beach, Thomas Torch and wife, Marlene of Peckville, Ann Marie Kopa and companion, Dave Luciano of South Jersey, Patty Ruddy and companion, Hector Orozco of Thousand Oaks, CA, Andrew Torch and wife, Carol of Carbondale, Joseph Torch and companion, Tracy Bruce of Daytona Beach, FL, Kathleen Torch of Carbondale; 20 grandchildren: Jim Wells, Jr., Amy Sitzler, Holly Smith, Heather Bradley, Marilyn Foster, Jonathan Torch, Amanda Berg, Ryan Kopa, Randy Kopa, Nicole Ruddy, Rachele Ruddy, Eugene Ruddy, III., Andrew Torch, III., Michael Torch, Alyssa Mosolino, Joseph Michael Torch, Hailey Bruce, Mikayla Bruce, Jayna Bruce, Brittney Catalan; 19 Great Grandchildren; sister: Betty Cyr of Springfield, VA; brother Francis Robinson of Endwell, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her grandson: Joshua Dallas Torch; sister Salone Robinson; and brother: Walter Robinson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, PA. Entombment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery Mausoleum, Greenfield Township, PA. A viewing will be held at the church from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.

In lieu of flowers memorials contributions can be made to St. Joseph’s Center, 2010 Adams Ave, Scranton, PA 18509.
