Obituary of James R. Green

James R. Green, K2VJF, 92, of Carbondale, PA, died Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Regional Hospital, Scranton, PA.

Born on September 24, 1928 in Wellsville, NY, he was the third son of the late Charles K. and Martha Jane Abbott Green. His mother died when Jimmy was four, so he was raised by his father and second mother, Ruth MacDonald Green.

As did so many of his generation, Jim went to work at an early age. He helped on a neighbor's chicken farm, delivered newspapers, worked in a bowling alley, a grocery store, mowed lawns, worked in a bicycle and auto repair shop and managed a movie theatre, all in Friendship, NY. He also drove school bus for 5 districts for over 50 years. He and his oldest brother, Victor, moved to Franklinville in 1954 and operated a service station there for 10 years. Jim then went to Motorola, Inc., in Arcade, NY, from where he retired in 1987. While there, he obtained a degree in Electronic Technology from Erie Community college. After retiring, Jim worked for International Chimney Corp., Williamsville, NY, and Mastel Ford Lincoln, of Olean, NY. He and his wife, Lucille, built a new home at their Rushford Lake property, which they owned for over 30 years.

Raised in the Baptist faith, Jim joined the Catholic Church as an adult. Always active in parish activities, Jim and his wife, together, received the St. Joseph the Worker Award from the Diocese of Buffalo, NY.

A person of many interests and hobbies, Jim played his clarinet in several bands and in many churches and nursing homes in both New York State and Pennsylvania. He built many clocks, among them 16 grandfather clocks, and repaired clocks for neighbors and friends. He also built model airplanes. Jim was an amateur (ham) radio operator from 1947 until his death and had enjoyable contacts with people all over the world.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years: Lucille Behringer Green; a daughter: Constance (David H., Jr.) Schulte; grandchildren: Demetrius (Nica) Econopouly, Gillian (Philippe Chmelar) Econopouly, Philip Econopouly, David H. (Jacquelyn) Schulte, III., 1st Sgt. Robert (Monica) Schulte; great grandchildren: Adrien Chmelar, Miriam Chmelar, Ruby Econopouly, Felix Econopouly, Greta Schulte, Sallie Schulte, Elizabeth Schulte and Michelle Smith; a brother: Malcom D. Green; 6 nieces and their extended families.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Victor and Walter Green; a sister: Lois Greene; and two grandchildren: Lornah Schulte and Kenneth J.S. Schulte.

In an effort to advance medical knowledge and research, Jim has donated his remains. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Friendship, NY.
