Obituary of Walter R. Staff

Walter R. Staff, 73, of Forest City, PA, died Friday afternoon, November 26, 2021 at Regional Hospital, Scranton, PA, after an illness. He is survived by his wife the former, Marian Davis.

Born May 18, 1948 in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Walter T. and Mary Elizabeth Hoagland Staff.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was employed as a mechanic while he resided in New York state. He later retired from the Miller Casket Company in Jermyn, PA, after many years of service. Walter was a devoted first responder to his community serving as the longtime chief of the Vandling Hose Company and a member of the Forest City Fire Department. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Fire Police. Walter was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed NASCAR and in his younger years competed in stock car racing.

He is survived by a son: Thomas C. Staff; five step children: Stephen, Michelle, Gregory, David and James Davis; six grandchildren: Destinie, Chyanne and Thomas Staff and Patrick, Arianna and Paisley Davis; three sisters: Caroline Furman, Linda Dawson and Marlene Dimock, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a step son: Christopher Davis; three brothers: Thomas, Richard and Carl Staff; and two sisters: Virginia Short and Mary Lambert.

Private funeral services were held from Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA. Entombment, Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA, at a later date.
