Obituary of Lee M. Harach

Lee M. Harach, 62, of Simpson, PA, died Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Regional Hospital, Scranton, PA. His wife of 27 years is the former Lisa Gillette. They were married September 24, 1994.

Born January 7, 1960 in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Trostle Harach.

Lee was a 1978 graduate of Steelton-Highspire High School, Steelton, PA, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy shortly after. He served for four years and was deployed to the Persian Gulf, Somalia, Suez Canal, Mediterranean and around the southern tip of Africa. Lee was a recipient of the Navy Expeditionary Medal and three awards of Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. Lee worked as a corrections officer at SCI-Waymart for 34 years prior to his retirement in 2019.

Lee was a member of the VFW Post 4712, Simpson, and enjoyed reading, traveling, hiking and crossword puzzles. He was an avid Yankees, Eagles and Flyers fan and loved the ocean. Lee will be greatly missed by his family and friends, especially his cat Rosie.

He is also survived by a daughter: Janel Harach of Simpson, PA; step daughter: Jaime Mrakovich of Forest City, PA; three grandchildren: Austin, Emma and Jase Mrakovich; a sister: Amy Kennedy and husband, David of Middletown, PA; a brother: Tod Harach and husband, Stephen Somers of Ephrata, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother: Jon Joseph Harach.

A funeral service was held Monday, April 4, 2022 at noon from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA. Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.

Viewing hours were held Monday, April 4, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
